UNITED TECHNOLOGIES, CARRIER CORPORATION DIVISION – Syracuse, New York 1990 - 1997
Laboratory Technician [Web
site]
Selected to install various components, controls and computers needed for lab to progress from manual data
acquisition and entry system to fully automated test-control data acquisition system. Worked with IT
development team and test facility engineers to test new custom hardware and software. Directly reported
and logged software and hardware bugs, anomalies in testing and feedback on how to improve both mechanical
equipment and software.
Awards
Engineering Employee Appreciation of Performance Award- Three
consecutive years for displaying high level of competency in duties related to lab testing and teamwork.
Additional Accomplishments
Transformed totally manual system that took three days to test one compressor to fully automated unit
that ran more rigorous tests on two compressors per day and dumped results into central database for access by design
engineers, allowing testing of more compressors, lowering possibility of releasing bad product, increasing ability to
test design changes and improving efficiency and sound levels of compressors.
Worked to develop and test commercial compressor prototypes and control software, testing system
parameters to ensure efficiency, safety and reliability; implementing modifications; and developing
equipment and test fixtures to meet objectives. Configured PC for control and monitoring of experiments.
After three years of development and testing, wrote operational manual for equipment, trained others
on its operation and worked with team in Japan to build carbon copy of system. Interviewed by an
international technology network and local newspaper due to great success of project.
Upgraded and automated another part of lab, programming software and PLC’s to run tests and storing
data. Went on to update electrical motors lab, creating database to record inventory of motors and safety
components.
Developed fully automated Calorimeter for compressor testing, going above and beyond call of duty in
building and modifying parts of rig, wiring components from PID controllers to stepper motors, cutting out
and painting sheet metal control panels, supervising and mediating between engineering contractors, taking
over during problems and fine tuning logic of PID controllers and reporting software glitches.
